A video of police dog chasing a terrorist is being widely shared on social media claiming that it shows the Dutch police dog capturing the terrorist. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Visuals of a police dog nabbing a terrorist

Fact: This video of a dog catching a terrorist is part of a demonstration, not a real incident. At the International K-9 day held at Koksijde, Belgium in August 2022, to honour the services of police and security dogs, several dogs from across the world demonstrated their skills. Hence the claim made in the video is MISLEADING

We searched the internet using relevant keywords and found the extended version of this video on Netherlands based daily newspaper Algemeen Dagblad’s website. The video was uploaded on 27 August 2022 with the title “Dog dropped from police helicopter and disables ‘terrorist’”

However, the text overlay in the video, when translated to English reads, “A dog was dropped from a police helicopter on the beach of Koksijde in Belgium on Friday. The police dog then took out a terrorist. At least, that’s how it was supposed to seem.” The action was part of the so-called ‘K9-day’, on which more than a hundred dogs from emergency services gave demonstrations. With this day, the emergency services want to show how important these dogs are.”

Taking cue from this, we searched for more information on the K9-Day website. According to this website, International K9-Day is a free experience day entirely devoted to rescue dogs. This event took place on 26 August 2022 near Koksijde, Belgium. Dogs from several countries and rescue teams demonstrated their skills during the event.

We contacted the organisers to know more details of the dog like name, country, trainer, etc. This article will be updated when the required information is available. Photos of other demonstrations in this can be seen here.

To sum it up, the demonstration video of a dog nabbing a terrorist is shared as a real one.
