Claim: The video shows General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff, admitting that India lost six jets and 250 soldiers during the recent conflict with Pakistan in “Operation Sindoor.”

Fact: The viral clip is manipulated. The original video is from General Upendra Dwivedi’s speech at IIT Madras on 04 August 2025, where he discussed leveraging technology, strengthening civil systems, and preparing for future security challenges. AI analysis using Hive (99.8% AI-generated score) and Hiya (authenticity score 24/100) confirms that the audio in the viral clip was altered. Hence, the claim is FALSE.

Upon closely examining the viral video, we noticed that General Upendra Dwivedi is actually talking about a “future war” at the beginning. However, when the video shifts to the part mentioning losses in “Operation Sindoor,” his voice suddenly changes in tone and modulation, a possible sign of manipulation.

A reverse image search on Google led us to the original video of his speech, delivered on 04 August 2025, at IIT Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. In the original address, he emphasised the importance of leveraging technology, strengthening civil systems, and involving the public in tackling future security challenges. The section from the viral video starts at the 10:57 timestamp, where he speaks about a future conflict. At no point in the original speech does he say that India has already lost six jets and 250 soldiers — this portion appears to have been inserted through manipulation.

To verify possible audio manipulation, we analysed the video using AI detection tools Hive and Hiya. Hive indicated a 99.8% probability of the content being AI-generated, while Hiya gave it an authenticity score of just 24 out of 100 — both results strongly suggesting that the audio had been manipulated using AI.

Additionally, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai has stated that India lost five soldiers in Operation Sindoor. However, there has been no official confirmation of any Indian fighter jet loss. Further, India’s Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh recently claimed that the Indian Air Force shot down at least five Pakistani fighter jets and a large surveillance aircraft during the operation.

To sum up, this video of Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi claiming losses in “Operation Sindoor” is a deepfake.
