A video (here, here and here) is going viral on social media claiming to show Arvind Kejriwal saying, “I am not only a fan of Modi but also a devotee of him. I had read about him earlier, but when I went to jail, I read more about his life and wondered how much he struggled. Very few people can endure such struggles.” Let’s check the truth behind this viral video.
Claim: The video shows Arvind Kejriwal praising Narendra Modi, calling himself a devotee of Modi and admiring his life struggles.
Fact: The video is clipped. In the original full video from a December 2024 rally in Delhi, Kejriwal did not praise Modi. Instead, he criticized Modi and Amit Shah for their negative attitude toward B.R. Ambedkar and stated that he is a devotee of Ambedkar, not Modi. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
To verify the authenticity of the video, we conducted a reverse image search, which led us to the original 16-minute video uploaded on the official YouTube channel of the Aam Aadmi Party on 19 December 2024. The video is titled “Arvind Kejriwal’s latest fiery speech on Ambedkar | Amit Shah was thoroughly slammed | Aam Aadmi Party.” In the video, Arvind Kejriwal appears in the same attire and setting as in the viral clip, confirming that the viral video was excerpted from this speech.
We reviewed the original video, and at no point did Kejriwal say what is being claimed in the viral clip. However, at the timestamp 02:53, he makes a statement similar to the one in the viral video, but it is not about Modi. Instead, he is talking about B.R. Ambedkar, saying: “I am not only a fan of B.R. Ambedkar but also a devotee of him. I had read about him earlier, but when I went to jail, I read more about his life and wondered how much he struggled. Very few people can endure such struggles.”
Additionally, we found a news report about the original video, which mentioned that it was from a rally in Delhi. In that rally, Arvind Kejriwal criticised Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, stating that they hold a negative mentality toward B.R. Ambedkar. He further said that he is a true devotee of Ambedkar and is deeply influenced by his life. These pieces of evidence confirm that the viral video is misleading, as Kejriwal was praising Ambedkar, not Modi, and the clip was selectively edited.
