A video is going viral on social media claiming to show a market in Thailand where various animals, such as pigs, crocodiles, snakes, and insects, both alive and dead, are being sold. We also received the same video on our tipline, claiming it to be from China. The video is being shared as if it depicts a real market. Let’s check the truth behind this claim.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The viral video shows a crowded market in Thailand or China where pigs, crocodiles, snakes, and insects, both alive and dead, are being sold.

Fact: The video is not from a real market in Thailand or China. Visible glitches like two-headed snakes, disappearing reptile parts, and abrupt cuts confirm it is AI-generated. Google’s SynthID tool also verified the video as AI-made. Hence the claim is FALSE.

On closely observing the video, several inconsistencies can be noticed. For example, the movement of snakes appears abruptly cut at times, in some places, two heads seem to emerge from one body, and certain body parts of reptiles turn invisible for a moment. These visual glitches strongly indicate that the video is AI-generated. Such distortions are common in AI-made content (here and here).

To verify whether the video was AI-generated, we ran it through SynthID, an AI detection tool developed by Google. The results confirmed that the video was created using Google’s AI.

Additionally, while snakes and other insects are indeed available in markets in countries like China, Thailand, and elsewhere (here, here and here), this particular video does not depict a real market from any of these places. Instead, it is AI-generated.

To sum up, this video claiming to show a Thailand market selling animals, reptiles like crocodiles and snakes, and insects is AI-generated.
