A screenshot of a Hindi newspaper clipping attributing controversial remarks against residents of Delhi from UP & Bihar to BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri is being circulated on social media. The news article reports Ramesh Bidhuri making provocative statements inciting the people of Delhi to drive away the people of UP and Bihar from Delhi. The purported statement attributed to Ramesh Bidhuri states- “There is only one treatment for the people of UP and Bihar, make them work and then thrash them and drive them away from here” (when translated from Hindi to English). In the wake of Ramesh Bidhuri’s recent offensive statements against BSP Muslim MP Danish Ali in the parliament, this news clipping is going viral on social media. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: A newspaper clipping reporting Ramesh Bidhuri’s statements against residents of Delhi from UP & Bihar.

Fact: The news clipping shared in the post had been circulating on social media at least since 2018. Ramesh Bidhuri issued a public statement in 2018 denying making any such controversial statements against residents of Delhi from UP & Bihar. BJP Delhi too issued a statement confirming that the news clipping was fake and had no connection with BJP or any of its leaders. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

When we searched the internet for the details of the news clipping using relevant keywords, we found that the news clipping had been circulating on social media at least since 2018. Bihar’s Madhepura ex-MP Pappu Yadav and many other prominent leaders from RJD and AAP reportedly shared the same news clipping screenshot in 2018. However, we could not find any official news reports attributing such controversial remarks to Ramesh Bidhuri.

Reacting to the viral news clipping, on 13 October 2018, Ramesh Bidhuri issued a public statement on his Facebook and X accounts confirming it was fake news. Ramesh Bidhuri denied making any such controversial statements against the residents of Delhi from UP & Bihar. Ramesh Bidhuri called it a well-planned conspiracy by those who want to divide society in the greed for power.

BJP Delhi’s official Twitter handle also confirmed that the viral news clipping was fake and said it had no connection with BJP or any of its leaders. Several news sites published articles clarifying that the viral newspaper clipping was fake. They can be seen here, here, and here.
