Indian Muslims celebrated Bakrid 2025 in early June. Amid this, a photo (here and here) went viral on social media showing Rahul Gandhi kissing Priyanka Gandhi, with both wearing caps typically associated with Muslim attire. Let’s find out the truth behind this photo.
Claim: The viral photo shows Rahul Gandhi kissing Priyanka Gandhi while both wear Muslim caps during Bakrid celebrations in 2025.
Fact: The photo is digitally altered. The original photo, captured during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in January 2023, shows no such caps and has no connection to Bakrid 2025. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
To verify the claim, we first removed the caps from the image and performed a reverse image search, which led us to several news reports (here, here and here) featuring the same photo without the caps. The Times of India had shared the original photo on 04 January 2023, with the caption ‘Rahul, Priyanka share sibling love during Bharat Jodo Yatra.’
According to media reports, during a stop of the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Uttar Pradesh on 03 January 2023, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined her brother Rahul Gandhi on stage in an affectionate moment that went viral. The Congress party shared the clip with a sibling-themed Bollywood song, highlighting their close bond during the nationwide campaign.
We also found the video of this moment, which was uploaded by the Congress party on X on 03 January 2023. At the 20-second mark, the same visual seen in the viral photo appears.
Additionally, we found another video of the event uploaded by News18 Rajasthan on 03 January 2023, titled “Bharat Jodo Yatra: जब Rahul Gandhi ने Priyanka Gandhi को किया Kiss | Viral Video | Hindi News.” In this video as well, the viral image appears at the 00:20-minute mark.
A close look and comparison between the viral photo and the original moment from the Bharat Jodo Yatra confirms that the image was edited. The version showing Muslim caps was digitally altered—the original photo shows no such headgear.
Additionally, Indian Muslims celebrated Bakrid on 07 June 2025, and both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi extended their wishes on X. However, the viral photo has no connection to the festival and has been digitally altered.
