A post claiming that an elderly woman in Amethi died of a heat wave after standing in a long queue in the Sun to submit her application form for the Mahalakshmi scheme under Congress’ ‘Ghar Ghar Guarantee’ initiative is being shared widely on social media (here, here and here). Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: An elderly woman in Amethi died from a heat wave after standing in a long queue in the sun to submit her application form for the Mahalakshmi scheme under Congress’ ‘Ghar Ghar Guarantee’ initiative.

Fact: Amethi police clarified that this is false and no such death of any woman near the Congress office was reported. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

After conducting a keyword search about the claim made in the viral post, we found no reports of an elderly woman dying of a heat wave near any Congress office. However, there are news reports of many women lining up in front of Congress offices to receive the guarantee card, which promises Rs. 8,500 per month under the Mahalakshmi scheme as part of the ‘Ghar Ghar Guarantee initiative’ (here and here).

Upon further investigation, we found that the Amethi police clarified that their inquiry did not uncover any such incident taking place in front of the Congress office, confirming that the claim was fake.

To sum up, there are no reports of an elderly woman dying of a heat wave after standing in line in front of the Congress office in Amethi.
