BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has alleged that she was recently assaulted by a female CISF constable, Kulwinder Kaur, at the Chandigarh airport. Subsequent news reports indicated that Kaur was suspended from duty for hitting the MP. In this context, a photo circulating on social media shows a woman posing with the Gandhi family, with claims that the woman is Kulwinder Kaur and that she attacked Kangana because of her close ties to the Gandhi family (here & here). Let’s fact-check the claim associated with the image in this article.

Claim: Photo of Kulwinder Kaur, the CISF constable who allegedly attacked Kangana Ranaut at the airport, with the Gandhi family.

Fact: The photo actually shows former Rajasthan Congress MLA Divya Mahipal Maderna with the Gandhi family, not Kulwinder Kaur. It was taken in February 2024 when Sonia Gandhi visited Rajasthan to file her nomination as a Rajya Sabha candidate from the state. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

While it is true that Kangana Ranaut was assaulted by a female CISF constable at Chandigarh airport, the woman in the photo with the Gandhis is not Kulwinder Kaur, the alleged assailant, but former Rajasthan Congress MLA Divya Mahipal Maderna.

A reverse image search for more information on this photo led to a tweet by Divya Mahipal from February 2024. In the tweet, Divya Mahipal mentions meeting Sonia Gandhi during her visit to Rajasthan to file a nomination as a Rajya Sabha candidate from the state. The same photo is available on her official Instagram account.

Comparing the photos of Kulwinder Kaur and Divya Mahipal, it is clear that the viral photo is not of Kulwinder Kaur, the alleged attacker of Kangana.

To sum up, the woman with the Gandhi family in this photo is not Kulwinder Kaur, the constable who allegedly attacked Kangana Ranaut.
