A video (here and here) is going viral on social media, claiming to show Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praising Jesus in his speech. Let’s find out the truth behind this claim.
Claim: The viral video shows Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi praising Jesus Christ during a public speech.
Fact: This video is manipulated. AI-generated audio was added to the original video of the speech by PM Modi delivered on 03 June 2022 in Parunkh, Uttar Pradesh. Nowhere in that speech did he mention Jesus Christ. While Modi has praised Jesus on other occasions, this particular video is fake. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
To verify the claim, we performed a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the original video. It was uploaded on Prime Minister Modi’s official YouTube channel on 03 June 2022. The visuals seen in the viral clip appear between timestamps 1:40 and 2:40 in this original video. But during this portion, PM Modi does not mention Jesus. We also found the same video shared by the official YouTube channels of the Parliament of India and the President of India on the same date. According to the video description, it shows PM Modi’s speech at an event in Parunkh, the hometown of former President Ram Nath Kovind, in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
We also found news articles related to the speech through a keyword search on Google (here, here and here). The Press Information Bureau (PIB) had published the full version of the speech on its official website (English and Hindi). Nowhere in the speech did Prime Minister Modi mention Jesus.
To check whether the audio was AI-generated, we ran the video through detection tools like Hive, Resemble AI, and Hiya. The results indicated that the audio in the viral video is likely AI-generated.
Additionally, we found that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did praise Jesus in several occasions (here and here). However, the viral video is unrelated to that occasion, and the audio in the video has been generated using AI.
To sum up, the viral video of PM Narendra Modi praising Jesus in his speech is fake and created using AI-generated audio.
