The video of a fire station collapsing due to an earthquake in Myanmar has been falsely attributed to Indian cities

A short video (here, here, here and here) is viral on social media showing a fire station building collapsing onto fire trucks. It was claimed to be from various Indian cities like Ghaziabad, Jaipur, Jhansi, and West Bengal — let’s check the truth behind it.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The viral video shows a fire station collapsing in Indian cities like Jhansi, Ghaziabad, Jaipur, or anywhere in West Bengal.

Fact: The video is actually from Myanmar, where a powerful earthquake in late March 2025 caused the collapse of a fire station in Sagaing province. International media, including Reuters, confirmed the location. No such incident was reported in any Indian city — hence, the claim is FALSE.

To find the truth, we did a reverse image search and found the same video on a YouTube channel called Sagaing Earthquake Archives. Sagaing is a province in Myanmar, and the caption said “Damage To Sagaing Fire Station, Sagaing, Myanmar” — clearly pointing to the incident happening there, not India.

To verify the viral video, we conducted a keyword search on Google, which led us to multiple international media reports featuring the same visuals (here, here and here). These reports confirmed that the footage is from a massive earthquake that struck Myanmar in the last week of March 2025. According to the BBC, over 1,600 people have died in the disaster, which devastated Mandalay and nearby areas. Rescue efforts have been severely hampered by damaged infrastructure, power outages, and overwhelmed hospitals.

All the reports included a photo of the collapsed fire station, confirming it is located in Myanmar’s Mandalay province. Media outlets credited the image to Reuters, with the caption: “People stand by a collapsed fire station after a strong earthquake, near its epicentre, in Sagaing, Myanmar.” We also found the same photo on the Reuters Connect website.

A side-by-side comparison of the viral video and the Reuters image clearly shows that both depict the same event, confirming the footage is from Myanmar, not India.

Additionally, a keyword Google search for any recent fire station collapse in Indian cities like Jhansi, Ghaziabad, Jaipur, or anywhere in West Bengal yielded no relevant results, confirming that no such incident occurred in India recently.

To sum up, the video showing a fire station collapse due to an earthquake in Myanmar has been falsely attributed to Indian cities.
