A video is being shared on Facebook with the claim that it shows the waves caused due to the recent cyclone, Fani. Let’s try to analyze the claim made in the post

Claim: The waves in the video are in the Bay of Bengal and were caused due to Cyclone Fani.

Fact: The same video was found to be uploaded last year on various social media platforms. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When the video in the post is divided into frames using Invid tool and the frames are run through Yandex Reverse Image Search, similar videos can be found in the search results. The videos were uploaded on various social media channels with different titles in 2018. The same video was found on YouTube with the title “The impact of Cyclone Mkono on the island of Socotra Imagine yourself here amid the horrific tsunami”, uploaded on 23rd May 2018. Also, the same video was found on Facebook, uploaded by a page called ‘Extreme Weather’ on 28th Aug 2018. So, it can be concluded that the video in the post is not the recent one.

To sum it up, the video is not related to Cyclone Fani. It’s an old video.
