A video is being shared widely on social media with a claim that it shows police beating a person who was previously seen hurting a calf. Both video clips can be seen in the posted video. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video shows police beating a person for hurting a calf.
Fact: The person was beaten by the police over charges of theft in a mobile shop; not because of his ill-treatment towards a calf. As the posted video went viral, the Chandauli Police have clarified the same. However, the exact details of the person who was hurting the calf in the video were not found. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
When the screenshots of the video clip in which police can be seen beating a person were run through Google Reverse Image Search, the video was found to be related to an old incident. The news reports regarding the incident can be read here and here. It has been reported that the police personnel beat them up as they were caught over charges of theft in a mobile shop. After the video of the incident went viral, SP Amit Kumar had suspended Kailawar outpost in-charge Shivanand Verma and head constable Dilip Kumar of the Balua Police Station (in Chandauli district of UP). So, the incident has no connection with another video clip in the posted video where a person can be seen hurting a calf.
As the posted video went viral, the Chandauli Police have clarified the same. They replied to many social media users that the ‘policemen beating a person’ video is related to a robbery incident. However, we could not find the exact details of the person who was hurting the calf in another video clip. FACTLY has previously debunked the same beating video when it went viral with a false claim that it shows UP Police thrashing a person for saying ‘Pakistan Zindabad’.
To sum it up, the police were thrashing the person in the video on charges of theft, not for hurting a calf.
