A photo (here, here, and here) allegedly showing RG Kar Medical College and hospital rape & murder accused Sanjay Roy celebrating his birthday in the presence of the ex-principal, Sandip Ghosh, is doing the rounds on social media. Let’s verify this claim through this article.
Claim: Viral photo shows rape & murder accused Sanjay Roy cutting a cake in the presence of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s ex-principal.
Fact: The person cutting the cake in this photo is Prasun Chatterjee, an employee at RG Kar Hospital, not Sanjay Roy. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a reverse image search which led us to an Instagram post made by the CNMCH RDA-“Calcutta National Medical College And Hospital Resident Doctors Association,” which contains the viral photo.
The post contains a carousel of images. A few of them feature a person described as Prasun Chatterjee, who, according to the post, is a data entry operator at Calcutta National Medical College & Hospital College(CNMCH). Taking this as a hint, we performed a keyword search online and found Prasun Chatarjee’s locked Facebook profile.
The DP of his Facebook profile, Prasun Chatterjee Rana, matches the photo posted by CNMCH RDA on Instagram. According to his Facebook bio, he works at both RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and CNMCH.
A further search on the internet revealed that the viral photo was actually posted by a Facebook user named Prosenjit Dey in January 2020.
The description of the post reads, ‘Birthday celebration of Prasun Chatterjee at MSVP office CNMCH.’ This makes it clear that the person in the viral photo is not Sanjay Roy.
To sum up, a photo of an employee of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital is being falsely shared as a photo of rape & murder accused Sanjay Roy cutting a cake in the presence of RG Kar’s ex-principal, Sandip Ghosh.
