A video (here, here, and here) claiming to show the CM of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, getting beaten by a mob is doing its rounds on social media. In the video, we see a man getting attacked by a mob as police try to protect him. We fact-check this claim through this article.

An archived version of this can be found here.

Claim: Viral video shows a mob attacking the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann.

Fact:  The person being attacked by the mob in the video is not Bhagwant Mann, but Amandeep Singh Boparai, the president of Yuva Jatt Sabha. He was reportedly attacked by a mob in April 2024 during a rally in Jammu. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

Firstly, we performed a keyword search on the internet to check for any news reports about such an attack on Bhagwant Mann. This search did not yield any such reports that validate the claim that the person featured in the video is the CM of Punjab.

Further, we performed a reverse image search on a few of its keyframes to learn more about the viral video. This search led us to a video (archive link) published on Facebook by ‘JK Rozana News,’ which contained the same visuals. According to the description of this video, the person being attacked in the video is the president of the Yuva Jatt Sabha, Amandeep Singh Boparai.

As per various reports, (here, here, and here), he was attacked by a mob on 13 April 2024 during a ‘Jatt Divas’ rally in Gole Bazar, Jammu. He was later detained by the police that day. Speaking to Punjab Kesari on this incident, Amandeep Singh Boparai said that around 20 people came with sticks and attacked the rally.

Boparai detailed the event in a Facebook video, which can be found here (archive link)

To sum up, old visuals of an attack on the president of Yuva Jatt Sabha,  Amandeep Singh Boparai in Jammu are falsely shared as a recent video of a mob attacking Bhagwant Mann.
