The government of the Netherlands has not officially released a commemorative postal stamp on the occasion of the RSS centenary celebrations

In September 2025, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) completed 100 years, and celebrations were held by the organisation across India. On 01 October 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the centenary celebrations of the RSS as the Chief Guest at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. On this occasion, the Prime Minister released a specially designed commemorative postage stamp and a ₹100 coin highlighting the RSS’s contributions to the nation. The ₹100 commemorative coin features the national emblem on one side and an image of ‘Bharat Mata’ in ‘Varad Mudra’ (a hand gesture symbolising blessing or generosity), accompanied by a lion and Swayamsevaks saluting her, on the other side (here, here, and here).

In this context, a photo of a postal stamp is circulating on social media (here, here, and here) claiming that the Netherlands government issued commemorative stamps on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The photo shows an RSS commemorative postal stamp released by the Netherlands government on the occasion of the RSS centenary celebrations.

Fact: There is no truth in the claim that the Netherlands government officially released an RSS commemorative postal stamp for the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The stamp was actually released by the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS NL) in the Netherlands on 09 October 2025, on World Post Day, to commemorate the RSS centenary. Moreover, anyone can create a postal stamp with their chosen images through the Netherlands Postal Department’s website. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

To verify the claim that the Netherlands government released an RSS commemorative postal stamp for the RSS centenary celebrations, we conducted a Google search. However, we found no reports of the Netherlands government officially issuing such a stamp. Considering the significance of the claim, it would have attracted widespread media coverage, but no such news was found.

We then found that this postal stamp was released by an organisation called Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS NL) in the Netherlands. It was issued on 09 October 2025, on World Post Day, to commemorate the centenary celebrations of the RSS.

Anyone can create and use a postage stamp with any image of their choice through the website of the Netherlands Postal Department. To do this, they simply need to upload the desired photo and pay a fixed fee.

Similar customised postal stamps are also offered by the Indian Postal Department (here, here), and a Factly article on this topic can be found here.

To sum up, the government of the Netherlands has not officially released a commemorative postal stamp on the occasion of the RSS centenary celebrations.
