The Para-athlete seen in this video represents Italy, not India

In the context of recently concluded 2022 Commonwealth Games, a video of a para-athlete winning the race is being widely shared claiming that she belongs to India. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Indian para-athlete winning a gold medal.

Fact: The video shows Italian para-athlete Sabatini Ambra winning gold medal in women’s 100m final at 2020 Tokyo Paralympic games. She doesn’t belong to India. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Firstly, the name of the athlete is clearly visible on the bib of her jersey. It shows her name is ‘SABATINI’. We searched on YouTube with relevant keywords and found the original short video of the competition uploaded on Official YouTube channel of International Paralympic Committee on 16 October 2021. Upon comparing the two videos, it is evident that the viral video is a copied from this video

The title of the video says, “The stages of a race, featuring Ambra Sabatini”. This video also contains the clues mentioned below:

Taking the cue, We searched about her on Wikipedia which says, “Ambra Sabatini (born 19 January 2002) is an Italian Paralympic athlete”

We also found the full video of the event where she won the Gold medal in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Also, one can see that there is no Indian athlete participating in the final race.
