A video circulating on social media alleges that the footage shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his support for the opposition’s I.N.D.I.A alliance. The video shows Narendra Modi urging people in a rally to ‘vote for India’ to get rid of the inflation. Furthermore, he was seen asking people to make ‘vote for India’ slogans along with him during the rally. Amid opposition comprising 26 political parties, announced their alliance name as Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A), the post says that Narendra Modi had made those remarks to express his support for the opposition’s new alliance. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: A recent video of Narendra Modi making ‘vote for India’ slogans and expressing his support for the opposition’s I.N.D.I.A alliance.
Fact: The video shared in the post shows a clipping of Narendra Modi’s old speech made during the Mahagarjana rally in Mumbai in 2013. Narendra Modi made those remarks as part of the 2014 General Election campaign. The video shared in the post is old and had nothing to do with the recently formed I.N.D.I.A alliance. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video and by searching with relevant keywords, a video showing similar visuals was found published by the ‘Aaj Tak’ on 22 December 2013. Aaj Tak published the video with the title, “ ‘Vote for India’ is the slogan for 2014 elections: Modi.”
Narendra Modi made those remarks during the Mahagarjana rally conducted as part of the 2014 General Elections campaign in Mumbai. ‘NewX’ also published the video in December 2013, with the description, “In 2014 elections, vote for the country not for a single party, says Modi. ‘Vote for India’ the crowd started chanting after Modi as he carried on with his speech.” The full speech of Narendra Modi during the Mahagarjana rally on 22 December 2013 can be seen here.
Taking a dig at the opposition’s new alliance I.N.D.I.A, Narendra Modi suggested renaming the opposition bloc I.N.D.I.A as ‘Ghamandiya’, and reportedly said, “They changed their name from UPA to INDIA to hide how they schemed against the poor… The name INDIA is not to show their patriotism but with an intention to rob the country.” A few other recent media reports about Narendra Modi’s attacks on the opposition’s new alliance can be seen here and here.
To sum it up, an old video of Narendra Modi is shared as the recent visuals of him making Vote for India slogans in support of the opposition’s I.N.D.I.A alliance.
