Fact: The video shared in the post shows an old ‘BBC’ news report related to the Delhi riots in 2020. This video shows Delhi police lathi-charge on anti-CAA protestors. This video has nothing to do with the recent Tripura communal violence. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
On observing the video carefully, from 2:26 minutes of the video, we could hear the ‘BBC’ journalist reporting that the incident had taken place in Delhi and Delhi police were not responding to the allegations of lathi-charge on protestors. Also, we could see ‘थाना खजुरी खास’ written on the police station building seen in the video. ‘Khajoori Khas’ is a neighbourhood in the North-Eastern part of Delhi.
On reverse image search of the screenshots using these keywords, a video with similar visuals was found in a tweet made by the ‘BBC’ news channel on 03 March 2020. ‘BBC’ reported it as an investigation report on Delhi police lathi-charge on anti-CAA protestors in Delhi. The ‘BBC’ reported it as the distressing visuals of Delhi police joining Hindu extremists and throwing stones at Muslim protestors in Delhi. ‘BBC’ published multiple videos with similar visuals, reporting it as the visuals from the Delhi riots in 2020.
