Fact: Gautam Adani, TCG Group Head Purnendu Chatterjee, JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal were present and spoke at the recent Bengal Global Business Summit. Many other businessmen like ITC Ltd Chairman & Managing Director Sanjiv Puri, RPSG Group chairperson Sanjib Goenka and Niranjan Hiranandani, co-founder and managing director of Hiranandani Group also attended the summit. BJP had criticised the summit, saying that expensive food was being served to political leaders. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
When we searched online about the global summit in Bengal, several articles were found about the recent Bengal Global Business Summit. Many industrialists attended the event held on 20 and 21 April 2022.
Gautam Adani, the chairman of Adani Group attended the summit and promised 10,000 crores investment in Bengal over the next 10 years. Head of TCG group Veteran Bengali Businessman Purnendu Chatterjee, JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal, and several others were present and spoke during the summit’s inaugural session.
137 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed, and West Bengal had received proposals of more than 3.4 lakh crores for investment. “ITC Ltd Chairman & Managing Director Sanjiv Puri, RPSG Group chairperson Sanjib Goenka and Niranjan Hiranandani, co-founder and managing director of Hiranandani Group, among others, spoke during the inaugural session of the summit and promised investment in Bengal.”
In this business summit, plenary sessions and sectoral sessions were held, apart from providing digital space for exhibitions and business networking. Businessmen and Diplomats from different countries also attended the summit. Many stalls introducing products like gaming, IT & ITES products were also showcased at the summit.
The opposition questioned the government about the status of projects announced at previous editions of the Bengal Global Business Summit. This 2022 Summit is the sixth edition; these summits were previously held from 2015 to 2019. BJP had also criticised the summit, saying that expensive food is being served and that it was a political conference.
