A photo of a TV news graphic is doing rounds on social media, claiming that CM Yogi’s wife, Sunita Rawat, donated ₹1 lakh and his daughter, Kriti Rawat, donated ₹50,000 to a relief fund. This has sparked discussions suggesting that UP Yogi Adityanath has a wife and daughter. Let’s find out the truth behind this viral claim.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s wife Sunita and daughter Kriti Rawat made donations to a relief fund.

Fact: Yogi Adityanath is unmarried and has no children, as confirmed by his official biography and government profiles. The donation mentioned in the viral post was actually made by the family of then Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, whose wife and daughter share the same names. Hence, the claim is False.

To check the truth, we did a basic search on Yogi Adityanath’s family details on Wikipedia. It mentions that he left home in the 1990s to take Sanyasa (renunciation) and later became the Mahant (head priest) of Gorakhnath Math after Avaidyanath’s death in 2014. As a Mahant, he follows a celibate life, which means marriage is not part of it.

We also checked the biography The Monk Who Became Chief Minister by Shantanu Gupta, and it doesn’t mention anything about Yogi Adityanath being married or having a family. His profile on the Uttar Pradesh government website also doesn’t list any such details.

Additionally, the popular biography website Stars Unfolded mentions his marital status as unmarried. Plus, we couldn’t find any credible source confirming that he has a wife or daughter.

To verify the names mentioned in the claim, we conducted a keyword search on Google for “Sunita Rawat” and “Kriti Rawat” along with the donation amounts of ₹1 lakh and ₹50,000, respectively. This led us to a Times of India report from April 2020—during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the report, then Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat donated five months of his salary, his wife Sunita Rawat contributed ₹1 lakh, and their daughters collectively pledged ₹52,000. Several other news outlets also reported the same information, confirming that Sunita Rawat and Kriti Rawat are related to Trivendra Singh Rawat, not Yogi Adityanath.

We checked the Digital Sansad portal for details about the then Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, which confirmed that his wife’s name is Sunita Rawat and that he has two children.

Further, we checked Trivendra Singh Rawat’s X handle and found a post dated 28 June 2015, where he said, “Meri Betiyaan Kriti & Shrija… Join Beti Bachao Movement by posting Selfie With Daughters.” These details confirm that Sunita Rawat and Kriti Rawat are part of Trivendra Singh Rawat’s family, and they were the ones who donated the money to the COVID-19 relief fund, not Yogi Adityanath.

To sum up, donations made in 2020 by the wife and daughter of the then-Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat were incorrectly attributed to the family of UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
