Lionel Messi recently visited India from 13 to 15 December 2025 as part of his GOAT India Tour 2025, marking his first return to the country in over a decade. During the three-day tour, he was welcomed by fans and participated in events in Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi, and also visited Anant Ambani’s Vantara (here, here and here). Amid this, a video (here and here) showing a massive concert is going viral on social media with claims that Messi attended an event at Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat. Let’s examine the truth behind this claim.
Claim: The viral video shows Lionel Messi attending an event at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during his GOAT India Tour.
Fact: The video is from a Coldplay concert held at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on 26 January 2025, months before Messi’s December 2025 India tour. During his recent visit, Messi travelled to Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi, and did not visit Ahmedabad. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
To verify the claim, we conducted a keyword search on Google to check whether Lionel Messi visited Ahmedabad during his recent GOAT India Tour. This search did not yield any credible reports confirming that Messi visited Ahmedabad or the Narendra Modi Stadium. We then performed a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the same video on X post-dated 26 January 2025, much before Messi’s India tour. The post’s caption stated, “This is how the Coldplay concert went last evening in Ahmedabad, but @diljitdosanjh says no more shows until India improves infrastructure!”
Another result led us to similar videos on YouTube (here, here and here), uploaded in January 2025, which reported the event as Coldplay Live at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. These videos further confirm that the viral footage predates Lionel Messi’s visit to India and is unrelated to it, though they do establish that the video was indeed shot at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
We also found several news reports (here, here and here) confirming that a Coldplay concert was held on 26 January 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. These reports clearly establish that the viral video is from that concert and has no connection to Lionel Messi’s GOAT India Tour, which took place in December 2025. Moreover, there are no reports of Messi visiting Ahmedabad during his December 2025 India tour.
To sum up, an old Coldplay concert from Narendra Modi Stadium is being falsely shared as footage of Lionel Messi visiting Ahmedabad during his recent GOAT India Tour.
