A video (here, here, and here) is doing the rounds on social media, which allegedly shows the Israeli ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, displaying a signboard that reads, “Butcher of Iran will not be missed.” We fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: Video of the Israeli ambassador displaying the “Butcher of Iran will not be missed” signboard at the UN.
Fact: This is an edited video. In the original video from September 2023, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, is seen displaying a poster that reads, “Iranian Women Deserve Freedom Now!” Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a keyword search on the internet, which led us to the original video from September 2023. In this original video, Gilad Erdan was seen holding up a poster. However, it did not have the text “Butcher of Iran will not be missed”. Instead, it is a poster with a photograph of the Iranian woman ‘Mahsa Amini’ who died in 2022 after reportedly being arrested by Iran’s morality police.

As per the news reports (here, here, and here), Israel’s ambassador, Gilad Erdan, displayed a poster that reads, “Iranian Women Deserve Freedom Now!” in the UN General Assembly.

This makes it clear that the viral video is fake and created using video editing techniques.

He reportedly did this act in protest against the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who was giving a speech at the UN General Assembly. Gilad Erdan was later escorted out of the UN Assembly by security officers. Gilad Erdan posted this video describing the event on his “X” handle.
To sum up, an old video from 2023 is edited to falsely portray that the Israeli ambassador was seen holding a poster that reads “Butcher of Iran will not be missed” at the UN.
