As the final phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections concluded, the internet is awash with several exit poll survey results. Amidst this, a video (here and here) of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi speaking to the media has gone viral on social media. In this small video clip, he can be seen saying that he is hoping that PM Narendra Modi will become the Prime Minister of this country for the third time. We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi told the media that he hopes Narendra Modi will become the Prime Minister of India for the third term.
Fact: This is an edited video. Speaking to the media in Patna, Owaisi said that he hopes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not become the Prime Minister for the third time. The video has been edited to sound as if he said the opposite. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a keyword search on the internet, leading us to the original version of the viral video in which Asaduddin Owasi was seen saying that he hopes Narendra Modi will not become the Prime Minister of our country the third time.
Other media agencies like Amar Ujala, ANI, India Today, and News24 also posted the original clip. This bite of his was during the election campaign in Patna, Bihar. In the original clip, Owaisi said, “..We hope that Narendra Modi won’t become the PM of this country for the third time. We are putting efforts into making that happen. Now the country will decide (what will happen)..”
This makes it clear that a small portion of this clip was edited out to make it look like Owaisi said he was hoping Narendra Modi would become the Prime Minister of India for the third term.
In the same clip, he answered a journalist’s question about Home Minister Amit Shah’s poll promise of removing Muslim reservations. He said, “He(Amit Shah) will end reservations for everyone; he will end the constitution.”
To sum up, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that he hopes Narendra Modi will not become the Prime Minister for the third time in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, not the opposite as claimed in the edited viral video.
