A video (here, here, and here) of BJP MP Anurag Thakur is being widely circulated across social media platforms, claiming that it shows BJP MP Anurag Thakur asking Congress MP and leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi a question which reads ‘how many pages are there in the Constitution,’ to which Rahul Gandhi had no answer during the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha. Through this article, let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video showing BJP MP Anurag Thakur asking Rahul Gandhi, ‘how many pages are there in the Constitution,’ to which Rahul Gandhi had no answer.
Fact: This viral video is edited. On 01 July 2024, BJP MP Anurag Thakur while speaking on president address, targeted opposition MPs, saying “I want to ask you something, how many pages are there in the Constitution? Don’t say these many, these many, say how many pages are there? You carry it (copy of the constitution) around every day, do you ever open it and read it? You don’t read it, you just keep waving it. Take it out of your pocket.”. However, Rahul Gandhi was not present in the Lok Sabha when Anurag Thakur made these remarks. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
To check the authenticity of the viral video clip, we conducted a relevant keyword search that led us to the full-length video of this viral clip shared on Parliament’s official YouTube channel, ‘Sansad TV’, on 01 July 2024, titled “Anurag Thakur’s Remarks | Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address in 18th Lok Sabha.”

Upon reviewing the entire video, we found that the viral clip of Anurag Thakur starts at timestamp 56:36. At timestamp 56:33, Anurag Thakur targeted opposition MPs, stating, “I want to ask you something, how many pages are there in the Constitution? Don’t say these many, these many, say how many pages are there? You carry it (copy of the constitution) around every day, do you ever open it and read it? You don’t read it, you just keep waving it. Take it out of your pocket.”
When Anurag Thakur made these remarks, the camera moved towards the opposition benches, but Rahul Gandhi was nowhere seen in the visuals. We also noticed that the camera did not focus on Gandhi at any point during Thakur’s entire speech, contradicting the viral video.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha sits in the first row of benches allocated to the Opposition MPs. Rahul Gandhi has been elected as the Leader of the Opposition in the 18th Lok Sabha, so he would normally occupy a seat in the front row. Upon careful observation of the entire video, it is evident that Rahul Gandhi’s seat in the front row remains vacant throughout Anurag Thakur’s speech.
We then found that the clip of Rahul Gandhi used in the viral video was taken from his response to the President’s address on 01 July 2024 (here). Based on this information, we can confirm that the viral video has been edited by combining two different clips to make it look like Thakur was having an exchange with Rahul Gandhi.
To sum up, an edited video is being shared, claiming that BJP MP Anurag Thakur left Congress MP Rahul Gandhi speechless during the Lok Sabha session, by mockingly asking whether he knows how many pages are there in the Constitution.
