On 12 June 2025, Air India Flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad. The aircraft lost altitude within minutes and went down in the Meghani Nagar area near the airport, erupting in flames (here, here). It crashed into the hostel building of B.J. Medical College and Civil Hospital, which was reportedly housing medical students at the time. Over 240 people were on board, including nationals of India, the UK, Portugal, and Canada (here). Investigation into the causes of the incident is ongoing, led by the DGCA, AAIB, and Air India.
In this context, a video of a building engulfed in flames is circulating on social media (here, here, here, and here), with the claim that it shows the 12 June 2025 Ahmedabad plane crash. The posts also claim that 242 people died in the crash and 20 doctors were killed in the hostel building. Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.

Claim: The video shows a building engulfed in flames during the 12 June 2025 Ahmedabad plane crash.
Fact: The viral video does not show the 12 June 2025 Ahmedabad plane crash. It shows a fire that broke out on 14 April 2025 at a chemical company named Jal Aqua and BR Agro in Ankleshwar, Bharuch, Gujarat. The video predates the plane crash, and multiple reports confirm it is unrelated to the incident. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
Upon close observation, we noticed that the viral video features the logo of ABC News. Taking this as a lead, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords, which led us to the same video (archived) posted on the Facebook page ABC News 24×7, dated 14 April 2025. The post stated that the fire broke out at a company in Bharuch, Gujarat. This confirms that the video was already online before the 12 June 2025 Air India crash and is unrelated to the incident.

We also found an Instagram post by ourgujaratnews, dated 14 April 2025, featuring the same video. The caption stated: “A massive fire broke out at a company named Jal Aqua and BR Agro in Ankleshwar, Panoli. The fire turned severe, engulfing the entire plant.”

Following this, we looked for more details and found multiple media reports covering the same incident (here, here, and here). According to these reports, the fire occurred at a chemical manufacturing unit in Bharuch, Gujarat, on 14 April 2025. Several fire engines were sent to the spot, and the factory was destroyed in the blaze. The reports also stated that the cause of the fire was yet to be determined.
To sum up, an April 2025 video of a fire accident at a chemical company in Bharuch is shared, linking it to the Ahmedabad plane crash.
