AI-generated videos are being falsely shared as PM Modi, Amit Shah, and Jaishankar apologising for launching Operation Sindoor

Following the 22 April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC). Both sides reported intensified cross-border firing and armed forces operations, leading to military and civilian casualties (herehere, and here). After days of attacks from both sides, a ceasefire agreement was reached through high-level military and diplomatic talks on 10 May 2025. However, Pakistan reportedly violated this agreement within hours of its announcement. Pakistani drones were sighted and intercepted in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar, as well as regions of Gujarat (here, here).

Amidst this, purported videos (here, here, here) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar have gone viral on social media, allegedly showing them apologising to the world for launching Operation Sindoor and admitting they had ‘lost the battle’ to Pakistan. Through this article, let’s fact-check these videos.

Archived versions of these post can be found here, here, and here.

Claim: Videos shows Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar apologising to the world for launching Operation Sindoor.

Fact: These viral videos, which claim to show Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah, and Dr S. Jaishankar apologising to the world for launching Operation Sindoor, are deepfakes. They are AI-generated and have been circulated online to disseminate false information. It should be noted that these videos are primarily being shared by Pakistani and pro-Pakistani social media users. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Upon careful review of these videos, several inconsistencies can be observed. For instance, the lip movements are distorted and not synchronised with the speech, facial expressions appear unnatural—a common sign of deepfake content, and the videos display an unrealistic glossy texture. These indicators strongly suggest that the videos are AI-generated.

Moreover, there are no credible news reports of any such statements from Indian leaders. If Prime Minister Modi or other ministers had released such a video, it would have been widely covered by major news outlets.

We then ran these videos through Hive Moderation, an AI detection tool. The results indicated that all of them likely contained deepfake or AI-generated content (here, here, and here).

Additionally, we found a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Government of India’s PIB Fact Check unit dated 10 May 2025, stating that the video showing EAM Dr S. Jaishankar apologising is AI-generated and part of false propaganda. Based on all this information, it is evident that the viral videos are either deepfakes or AI-generated.

To sum it up, AI-generated videos are being falsely circulated, claiming to show PM Modi, Amit Shah, and Jaishankar apologising for launching Operation Sindoor amid ongoing India–Pakistan tensions.
