A post (here and here) on social media claims that actor Yash has rejected the role of Ravan in the film Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Kumar (Tiwari). It is being claimed that he said no to the project because of the alleged beef-eating habits of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, who are playing the roles of Lord Rama and Sita Devi. We will fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: Actor Yash rejected the role of Ravan in the film Ramayana over his co-stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s alleged food habits.
Fact: Yash is part of the cast and is playing the role of Ravan in the Ramayana movie according to an introductory video released by the film’s team on 3 July 2025. He is also the co-producer of the film. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the claim, we performed a keyword search and found that the viral claim was previously shared by social media users in June 2023 (here and here).
During this search, we found the introduction video of the said film, Ramayana (titled as Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana), on YouTube. It was uploaded on 3 July 2025 by Sony Music India on their official verified YouTube channel.
According to the video and the credits section given in the video’s description, Actor Yash is playing the role of Ravan in this film, which contradicts the viral claim. Ranbir Kapoor is playing the role of Ram, and Sai Pallavi is playing the role of Sita.
In fact, according to the credits, he is one of the producers of the film. The film’s team had posted the same video on Instagram, collaborating with Yash.
Additionally, we did not find any recent news reports of Yash backing out of the project. Neither did we find any older news reports on Yash rejecting the project because of the food habits of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
However, we found a few reports (here and here) from June 2023 that said he rejected the offer as he was not keen on playing a negative role, which was later reported to be untrue.
Apart from these, we found a few reports from 2023 about actress Alia Bhatt leaving the project over date issues (here, here, and here). One of the film’s producers, Namit Malhotra, appeared on YouTuber Prakhar Gupta’s podcast after the release of the introduction video. He did not mention anything about Yash rejecting or leaving the project.
To sum up, there are no credible reports to validate the claim that actor Yash has rejected the role of Ravan in the movie Ramayana as of 25 July 2025. He is playing the role of Ravan in the film, according to an introductory video released on 3 July 2025.
