A video (here and here) of South African women’s cricketer Tazmin Brits kneeling and shooting an arrow from an invisible bow is going viral on social media. Some users are sharing the video, claiming that she did this in imitation of Lord Rama in a match against Pakistan, in support of India. We will fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: South African cricketer Tazmin Brits is seen in this video shooting a bow in the air, in imitation of Lord Rama during a cricket match against Pakistan, in support of India.

Fact: South African player Tazmin Brits did this after scoring a century in a match against New Zealand in the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, not Pakistan. This is the celebration that footballer Mohamed Salah does when he scores a goal in a game. Brits confirmed that she did this celebration after scoring a century at the request of two 13-year-old girls. Hence, the claim made in this post is Misleading.

To determine the truth behind this claim, we searched the internet using a few keywords and found a video similar to the visuals seen in the viral video on the ICC (International Cricket Council) Instagram page.

The description of this video states that Tazmin Brits made this pose after scoring a century in a match between New Zealand and South Africa (in a World Cup match on 6 October 2025). We also found the same video on Star Sports’ YouTube channel. This contradicts the viral claim that she did this in a match against Pakistan. Pakistan and South Africa are yet to play a match in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup, which is scheduled for 21 October 2025. Additionally, we did not find any news reports of her performing such a pose in an earlier match against Pakistan.

Additionally, an article published by Sportstar about Tazmin Brits’ celebration after scoring a century in this match mentioned that she had celebrated in this manner at the request of two 13-year-old girls.

According to this article, she has a signature celebration (ballerina celebration). Further, during a media day before the World Cup match, when her teammate Sainalo Jafta asked her what celebration she would do if she scored a century, she asked her fans to make a choice. The Sportstar article says that two 13-year-old girls chose it, which is why she did it. You can see some other news articles published about this here, here, and here.

The Sportstar article mentioned that this celebration is called the Mohamed Salah celebration. We searched the internet for more details and found that Mohamed Salah is an Egyptian footballer and that he performs a bow-and-arrow celebration (pretending to throw an arrow into the air) when scoring goals in football games (here, here, here). Mohamed Salah plays for Liverpool in the Premier League.

In an interview with the YouTube channel ‘Men in Blazers’, Mohamed Salah said that he did the celebration during a match, after seeing UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fighter Israel Adesanya do it after winning a fight. Mohamed Salah also said that some people also interpret it as a symbol of the Egyptians’ temples or pyramids.

To sum up, a video of Mohamed Salah’s celebration by South African cricketer Tazmin Brits during a 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup match against New Zealand is being shared with a misleading claim.
