A video widely shared on social media (here, here, and here) shows a group of Muslim men vandalizing a barricade at a toll plaza. A user captioned, “They are showing your future!? ️!? ️This scene was captured in Karjan-Miyagam (Barora Surat Road) CCTV this afternoon!” alleging that the incident took place in India. Let’s find out the truth behind the video.

Claim: A video shows a group of Muslim men vandalizing a toll plaza’s barricade in India.

Fact: The incident occurred on 18 September 2024 at Kurli toll plaza on Dhaka’s elevated expressway in Bangladesh. Security personnel stopped the truck carrying people and denied them entry for safety reasons, leading to an argument. During the altercation, a few individuals from the truck vandalized the toll plaza’s barricade. The video has no connection to India. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A reverse image search of the keyframes of the viral video led to media reports from Bangladesh (here, here, and here). The incident occurred on 18 September 2024 at Kurli toll plaza on Dhaka’s elevated expressway. Security personnel stopped the truck carrying people and denied them entry for safety reasons, leading to an argument. During the altercation, a few people from the truck vandalized the toll plaza’s barricade.

Additionally, we also found a video published by Channel 24 on YouTube on 19 September 2024, in which the highway authority stated that the incident was a “misunderstanding” between the pickup passengers and expressway staff. They were arguing about being denied entry despite paying the toll, but access was restricted for safety reasons.
