The first phase of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections has concluded, with the second phase scheduled to be held today (11 November 2025). In this context, a video showing several youths beating a man standing through a car’s sunroof is going viral on social media. The claim accompanying the video suggests that it shows an MLA being assaulted by locals in Bihar after returning to the area for the first time in five years to ask for votes (here, here, here, here, and here). A few posts also claimed that this incident took place in Motihari, Bihar (here, here). Through this article, let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: The video shows a Bihar MLA being beaten by locals after returning to the area for the first time in five years to seek votes for the 2025 Assembly elections.

Fact: This viral video shows a scuffle between a car driver and a motorcyclist that took place on 27 October 2025 in Mathurapur, Gaya, Bihar. An FIR (No. 251/2025) has been registered in connection with this incident at the Guraru Police Station in Gaya district. Officials from the Guraru Police Station have confirmed that none of the individuals involved in the incident are elected MLAs or public representatives. Speaking to us, the victim (the person in the car), Ramjeet Kumar, also confirmed that he is not an MLA or an elected representative, stating that he is a doctor (BAMS) by profession. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A reverse image search of the viral video led us to a clearer and extended version of the same clip, shared on Facebook by a user from Gaya, Bihar, on 4 November 2025. The caption of the video stated that it was from Mathurapur. Upon closely observing the viral footage, we noticed a signboard for a coaching institute named ‘Sarvottam Classes’, with its address mentioned as Mathurapur. Using this clue, we geolocated the location seen in the viral video on Google Maps. From this, it is evident that the incident took place in Mathurapur, Bihar.

To gather more details about the incident seen in the viral video, we contacted the ‘Sarvottam Classes’ coaching institute using the phone number displayed on their signboard, but did not receive a response. Earlier, Aaj Tak Bangla’s Fact Check unit had contacted the coaching centre for clarification. Speaking to them, the institute’s owner and teacher, Akash Kumar, said, “The video is from Mathurapur Bazar under Guraru police station in Gaya district of Bihar. Last week (in the last week of October), following a dispute over a bike collision, some youths attacked the car seen in the viral video and beat up the driver.”

Taking this as a cue, we conducted a relevant keyword search and found multiple news reports about the incident (here, here). According to these reports, the incident took place on 27 October 2025, when four bike-borne assailants allegedly beat up a car driver named Ramjeet Kumar in the Guraru Police Station area of Gaya district and robbed him of ₹60,000. On that day, Ramjeet Kumar, a resident of a village under Koch Police Station, was returning to Mathurapur from Rafiganj when the accused stopped his car and attacked him. Following the incident, an FIR was filed at the Guraru Police Station against four local youths identified as Prince Kumar, Arun Kumar, Bhola Chandravanshi, and Vinay Chandravanshi.

We then contacted Guraru Police Station to obtain further details about the incident. Speaking to us, an official from the station said, “On 27 October 2025, a group of youths stopped a car in Mathurapur Bazar, alleging that the driver, who appears in the viral video, had hit a motorcycle and fled. They subsequently attacked the driver. Based on the car driver’s complaint, an FIR (No. 251/25) has been registered in this regard at Guraru Police Station against four individuals identified as Prince Kumar, Arun Kumar, Bhola Chandravanshi, and Vinay Chandravanshi. This incident has no connection with the assault of any political leader or election campaigning.” The FIR filed in connection with this incident can be seen here.

We also contacted the victim, Ramjeet Kumar, who was the person in the car. Speaking to us, he confirmed that he is neither an MLA nor an elected representative, adding that he is a doctor by profession and runs a private hospital named K.P. Memorial Hospital. Ramjeet stated that the incident occurred near Mathurapur Bazar, where the assailants allegedly followed him for nearly six kilometres and hit his car from behind, leading to a dispute. He further added that he has lodged an FIR, but no action has been taken yet, and the case is still under process.

There have been reports of MLAs or contesting candidates being attacked by the public during the 2025 Bihar Assembly election campaigns (here, here).

To sum it up, this viral video shows a scuffle between a car driver and several motorcyclists that took place on 27 October 2025 in Bihar’s Mathurapur market, and none of the individuals involved are elected MLAs or public representatives.
