On 12 June 2025, Air India Flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad. The aircraft lost altitude within minutes and went down in the Meghani Nagar area near the airport, erupting in flames (here, here). It crashed into the hostel building of B.J. Medical College and Civil Hospital, which was reportedly housing medical students at the time. Over 240 people were on board, including nationals of India, the UK, Portugal, and Canada (here). Rescue and investigation efforts are ongoing, led by the DGCA, AAIB, and Air India.
In the aftermath of the crash, a video is going viral on social media (here, here, and here), showing people falling from the top floor of a burning building. It is being shared with the claim that it shows visuals from the Air India plane crash site in Ahmedabad. Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.

Claim: The video shows people falling from the top floor of a burning building at the Air India plane crash site in Ahmedabad.
Fact: The video is not from the Ahmedabad crash site but shows a fire that broke out on 10 June 2025 in a duplex flat of Shabad Apartment in Dwarka Sector 13, Delhi. It predates the 12 June 2025 Air India plane crash. The incident in the viral video led to the deaths of three family members who jumped from the upper floors, while two others were injured. Multiple media outlets confirmed this incident, and PIB Fact Check also clarified on 13 June 2025 that the viral video has no connection to the Ahmedabad crash. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral video led us to a news report published on the YouTube channel of The Indian Express on 10 June 2025, featuring the same footage. The video is titled “Fire Breaks Out in Shabad Apartment in Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 13, Fire Tenders Rush to the Site.” This confirms that the viral video predates the 12 June 2025 Ahmedabad plane crash. According to the report, the visuals show a fire that broke out at Shabad Apartment in Dwarka Sector 13, near MRV School. Multiple media outlets covered this incident, as seen here, here, and here.
According to reports (here, here, and here), a massive fire broke out on 10 June 2025 in a duplex flat located on the 9th and 10th floors of Shabad Apartment in Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 13. The fire reportedly began around 10:00 AM and quickly spread, prompting the immediate response of fire tenders. Tragically, three members of the same family, a man and his two children, died after jumping from the balcony in a desperate attempt to escape the flames, while two other family members sustained injuries. Initial findings suggest the fire may have started in the puja room, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed. Reports also highlight serious safety lapses in the building, including non-functional firefighting equipment and the absence of a valid fire NOC since 2016.

Additionally, we found an X post by PIB Fact Check dated 13 June 2025, clarifying that a video of a building on fire is being falsely linked to the Ahmedabad plane crash. The video is actually from a fire incident that took place in Dwarka, Delhi. PIB urged users to ignore such rumours and rely only on information from official sources.
To sum up, a video of a building fire accident in Delhi is shared as that of the 12 June 2025 Air India crash in Ahmedabad.
