A video (here and here) and its screengrab (here and here) have gone viral on social media, claiming that the Congress party distributed sanitary pads with Rahul Gandhi’s photo printed directly on the pad itself as part of their campaign in Bihar. The video shows a man unwrapping a pad and revealing the Congress leader’s face on it. We will fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: Video shows the sanitary pads distributed by the Congress party in Bihar with Rahul Gandhi’s photo printed on the pad.
Fact: This is a satirical video made by a comedian named Ratan Ranjan. The Congress party distributed pads in branded boxes featuring images of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, but no such images were printed on the pads themselves. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
To verify the claim, we performed a keyword search on the internet and found that on 4 July 2025, the Congress Party announced the distribution of five lakh sanitary pads to women in Bihar as part of the Priyadarshini Udaan Yojana (find news reports here, here, and here). The boxes/packets of these pads feature images of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The NDA objected to having the photo of Rahul Gandhi on the packets (here, here, and here).

During this search, we learned that a comedian named Ratan Ranjan posted this video on ‘X’ on 5 July 2025. He also made another video (here and here) regarding sanitary pads.

In an interview given to ‘A2Z NEWS TV’, Ranjan accepted that he made the video. During this interview, he shows the sanitary pad, which contains a cutout photograph of Rahul Gandhi inside it. It’s not printed on the pad as claimed in the viral posts.
In this interview, he can be seen saying that he would not apologise for making this video. In a video by One India Hindi, he can be seen saying that he made the video as a satire on Congress’s political agenda.
Furthermore, when we observed the pad shown in the viral video, we found that it is different from the sanitary pads packet distributed by the Congress party. The colour of the packet in the video made by Ratan Ranjan is orange. On the front side, Rahul Gandhi’s photo, along with the text about the Mai Bahin Maan Yojana, can be seen. However, the original packets (here, here, here, and here) colour is pink, and it’s quite different (looks like a box) from the packet seen in the viral video.

With regards to this issue, multiple cases have been filed against Ratan Ranjan in Telangana, Odisha, and Karnataka (here, here, and here).

The Congress party has called the video fake and stated that Rahul Gandhi’s photo is not printed on the sanitary pad. All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba posted a video on social media where she dismissed the claim in the video. In this video, we can see her opening the sanitary pad and showing that there is no photo of Rahul Gandhi printed on it.

To sum up, a satirical video made by a comedian is shared as real sanitary pads with Rahul Gandhi’s photo printed on them, distributed by the Congress party in Bihar.
