A collage with the photos of a professor teaching with a baby in his arms is being shared on social media. This post claims him as the widower who is looking after his child and teaching in the college together. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: Photos of a widower professor teaching by holding his baby in his arms.
Fact: These photos show a Mexican professor carrying his student’s baby while she was taking the notes in his class. This incident took place at Inter-American University for Development (UNID) in Mexico in 2016. The baby in his arms is not his baby. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
On reverse image search of the photos shared in the post, we found the same photos in a Mexican news article published on 13 July 2016. In the article, it is reported that Moisés Reyes Sandoval, a law professor at the Inter-American University for Development (UNID) in Acapulco, carried his student’s baby while she was taking notes in his class. Moisés Reyes Sandoval shared these pictures on his Facebook page on 06 July 2016. Moisés Reyes Sandoval, in his post, mentioned that ‘I have a student, who has not dropped out of school despite her different roles. So, I decided to carry her son without interrupting the class and her to take notes’.
News articles and videos reporting this incident can be seen here, here, and here. Few social media handles shared this information in 2016. They can be seen here and here. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the professor in the photo carried his student’s baby while teaching, not his baby.
To sum it up, the photo of a Mexican professor carrying his student’s baby while teaching is shared with a false narrative.
