A few Photos (here, here, and here) viral on social media show Union Agriculture Minister and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan with a plaster on different hands, with one photo showing it on his right hand while another shows it on his left, fuelling claims that he is lying about it. Let’s find the truth behind this.

Claim: The Viral photos show Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Agriculture Minister and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, with a plaster on different hands, suggesting he is lying about his injury.

Fact: The viral selfie is flipped. Multiple photos from this and other events confirm that Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s injury was actually on his right hand, making the claim FALSE.

To find the truth, we conducted a keyword search on Google, which led us to a video from September 2019 uploaded by the official X handle post of Office of Shivraj. In this video, Shivraj Singh Chouhan can be seen wearing the same attire as in the viral photo, but the plaster appears on his right hand, unlike the viral selfie that shows it on his left hand.

We also found photos of Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the same attire on the X handle of Maharashtra PWD Minister and former BJP President Rakesh Singh. He had posted pictures from the same event, describing it as the nomination rally of BJP candidate Shri Bhanu Bhuria for the Jhabua Assembly by-election. In these photos also, Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s plaster is clearly visible on his right hand.

A comparison of the above-mentioned photos with the viral selfie makes it clear that both are from the same event. However, in the pictures uploaded by BJP leader Rakesh Singh, the buttons on Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s jacket are positioned oppositely compared to the viral selfie. This indicates that the viral selfie is a flipped version, which is why the plaster appears on his left hand, while in reality, the injury is on his right hand.

Additionally, we found several photos from the same period, but at different events, showing Shivraj Singh Chouhan attending various functions with the plaster clearly on his right hand (here and here). This further confirms that the viral selfie is a flipped version, and the actual injury was indeed on his right hand.

To sum up, a flipped photo of Shivraj Singh Chouhan is falsely shared as showing him with a plaster on different hands.
