A video (here, here, here, here, and here) featuring Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is being widely shared on social media with the claim that he announced a new central government scheme to give ₹12,000 to families earning below ₹5 lakh per annum. The post suggests this benefit will begin from 22 December 2025. We will fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: Video of Om Birla announcing that the central government will provide ₹12,000 to low-income families.
Fact: This is a deepfake video; it uses an AI-generated voice and manipulated audio to falsely attribute this announcement to Om Birla. Neither he nor the government has announced such a scheme. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To verify the claim, we searched for credible news reports and government announcements about this alleged new financial aid scheme providing ₹12,000 to low-income households from 22 December 2025. No such scheme or announcement by Om Birla or others appears in official sources, reputable media reports, or government press releases.
To learn more about the video, we performed a reverse image search on the internet using a few keyframes from the viral video. This search led us to the original, unedited, uncropped video on the Sansad TV YouTube channel, dated 1 December 2025. It is a recording from the Winter Session of Parliament.

The visuals seen in the viral video can be seen in this video at the 3:24 timestamp onwards. In the original footage, Birla is seen offering condolences to the late parliamentarians and is not discussing any financial aid scheme or benefits. This confirms that the viral clip has been altered by replacing the original audio or overlaying artificial audio to fabricate the claim.

To verify the same, we ran the audio of the viral clip through Hiya, a deepfake voice detector tool. It identified the audio in this clip as a deepfake.

To sum up, a deepfake video is being shared as visuals of Om Birla announcing ₹12,000 aid for poor families.
