A ‘Cycle Plank Balance’ competition video from Nepal is shared as a postmaster selection process in India

A video of a man riding a bicycle on a narrow bridge is being shared on social media claiming that the video shows the postmaster selection process in India. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: The video shows the selection process of postmasters in India.

Fact: It’s a video of the ‘Cycle Plank Balance’ competition held in Kapilvastu, Nepal. The selection process for a Postmaster job in India involves a written examination, followed by a personal interview or document verification. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

On performing a reverse image search using the keyframes of the video, we found this video being shared by many (here and here). The accompanying descriptions of these videos indicated that it was the second edition of the ‘Cycle Plank Balance’ competition conducted in Kapilvastu, Nepal. The competition was reportedly organized by the Lions Club of Kapilvastu, and the winner was mentioned as Manik Shreshta.

The presence of the Nepali national flag on boards and posters in both the viral and competition videos on YouTube can be noted. Below is the comparison between the two videos.

Subsequently, we came across reports (here and here) from Nepali media regarding this competition. The reports indicated that an 11-year-old named Manik Shrestha, hailing from Butwal, emerged as the winner of the second edition of the ‘Cycle Plank Balance’ competition held at Rajapani on the day of Vijayadashami.

                      
Furthermore, we verified the eligibility criteria for the postmaster position on the India Post official website. The criteria include holding a minimum qualification of a Secondary School Examination pass certificate of the 10th standard with a passing grade in Mathematics and English. Proficiency in computers and cycling, among other requirements, is also necessary. The selection process consists of a written examination, followed by a personal interview or document verification.
