A video is being shared on social media which features Uttar Pradesh’s CM, Yogi Adityanath, in which he is seen allegedly speaking about the film Gadar 2. It is also being claimed on social media that the government has given a tax exemption for Gadar 2. Let’s fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: Visuals in the viral video show Yogi Adityanath praising Gadar 2. Gadar 2 received tax exemption from the government of India.
Fact: The visuals in this video were actually shot during a speech given by Yogi Adityanath during a screening of the film ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ in June 2022. Additionally, it is being reported that Gadar 2 might receive tax exemption in various states across the country, but no state has officially made the announcement yet. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
Using relevant keywords to learn more about the viral clip, we searched the internet for the original version of Yogi Adityanath’s speech. This search led us to a few videos (here, here, and here) from June 2022, which feature the full speech of the UP CM. Reportedly, Yogi Adityanath attended a screening of the film Samrat Prithviraj in June 2022.
In the speech given by him during this event, he was seen praising the cast and crew of the film. During this event, he also announced a tax exemption for this film in Uttar Pradesh. Cropped and flipped footage from this speech of Yogi Adityanath are being used to portray as if he spoke about Gadar 2. You can find the lines spoken by him, which are used in the viral clip here and here.
Furthermore, searching the internet to see if the government of India has given any tax exemption for Gadar 2, we found a ‘TimesNow’ news report published in this regard. Reportedly, sources from Zee Studios, one of the producers of this film, informed TimeNow that they applied for tax exemption in various states and got an ‘encouraging response from them all.’ By the time of writing this, no news reports confirm that the government(state/central) passed orders to give Gadar 2 a tax exemption.
We also found a news report according to which Yogi Adityanath attended the premier of Gadar 2 in Mumbai, while in one report, it was said that it was a doppelganger of Yogi Adityanathi. You can find the news reports here and here.
To sum up, this viral video uses a clip from an old speech of Yogi Adityanath and falsely links it to Gadar 2. Additionally, there is no credible information online to prove that Gadar 2 received a tax exemption from the government.
