A 2022 video from Brazil is falsely shared as visuals of a woman falling into a caved road in Gujarat and Ayodhya.

A video (here and here) of a woman falling into a sinkhole is being shared as visuals of an incident on Rampath Road, Ayodhya, after the first rains. Incidentally, the same video is also being shared as being from Gujarat. We fact-check both these claims through this article.

Claim: This video of a woman falling into a sinkhole was recently filmed in Ayodhya/Gujarat.

Fact: The video is actually from 2022, and shows an incident from Brazil. It was neither filmed in Ayodhya nor Gujarat. The video shows CCTV footage of a woman in Brazil’s Ceará falling into a sinkhole in as she walks on a sidewalk. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To learn more about the viral video, we performed a reverse image search on a few keyframes, leading us to news reports (here, here, and here) from June 2022 about the same video.

Reportedly, in June 2022, ‘A woman fell into a hole that opened up in a sidewalk in a city in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza, in Ceará. (Brazil)’ This whole incident was captured on a CCTV. As per the reports, she had minor injuries.

The viral video is a cropped and flipped version of this CCTV footage from Brazil and is falsely attributed to Ayodhya and Gujarat in the viral posts.

To sum up, the viral video of a woman falling into a sinkhole in Brazil from 2022 was falsely shared as an incident from Ayodhya or Gujarat.
