A photo (here, here, and here) of Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor resting on a bed with a plaster cast to his leg is doing the rounds on social media. It is being claimed that he got injured recently. We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: Photo of MP Shashi Tharoor, who was injured recently in 2024.
Fact: This photo is from December 2022, when he sprained his left foot while walking in the parliament. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a reverse image search on the internet, leading us to an ‘X’ post made by Shashi Tharoor in December 2022.
In this post (archive link) featuring the viral photo, Shashi Tharoor mentioned that he badly sprained his left foot after missing a step in Parliament. We also found several news reports about this from 2022, which you can see here, here, and here.
Further, we looked through his social media profiles (here, here, and here) to see if he had posted about injuring his leg recently. However, we did not find any such posts on his profile except for one tweet he made on 12 December 2024, slamming the trollers for sharing his old photo. In the same tweet, he affirmed that he was in good condition. Additionally, we performed a keyword search on the internet to check if such news had been reported about him after his tweet, but we did not find any.
To sum up, an old photo from 2022 is shared as a recent photo of Shashi Tharoor in a plaster cast on his injured leg.
