Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, the Member of Parliament from the Purnea constituency of Bihar, has reportedly said that he can finish off Lawrence Bishnoi’s Gang in 24 hours. In this context, a video (here, here, and here) of him lamenting in a car while talking to the media is doing the rounds on social media, claiming that this incident took place after his recent remarks about finishing off Bishnoi’s network. The viral post’s description in Hindi translates to ‘Pappu Yadav was killing Lawrence Bishnoi this evening, maybe someone beat him up on the way, he is crying loudly.’ We will fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: This video shows a recent incident in which Pappu Yadav was crying while addressing the media after he claimed that he can finish off the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in 24 hours.
Fact: This is an old video from 2018. It shows him crying after he was reportedly attacked when he was on his way to attend a rally in Muzaffarpur’s Khabra, which is located in Bihar. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a search using relevant keywords. This search led us to the original version of the clip that is seen in the viral post.
This video report was uploaded on YouTube by ABP Live on their official channel on 6 September 2018. You can see the portion seen in the viral video from the 17-second mark of this video.
As per this report, Pappu Yadav was seen crying in a car after someone attacked him while he was on his way to a rally in BIhar’s Muzaffarpur.
A further search on this incident led us to multiple news reports (here, here, and here) from 2018. According to these reports, he was attacked by around 15 unknown people when he was travelling from Muzaffarpur to Madhubani to participate in a padayatra. He was attacked in the Khabra area.
Apart from this evidence which clearly shows that the viral video is not recent, there are also no reports about him crying recently after he said (here and here) that he could finish off gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang.
To sum up, a 2018 video of Purnea MP Pappu Yadav crying is falsely being shared as recent visuals of him breaking down in a car after he made comments about finishing off Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang.
