A video through a post is being widely shared on social media claiming that Assam police had recently nabbed people brandishing swords in a bike rally. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Recent video of police nabbing youth for brandishing swords in a bike rally in Assam.

Fact: The video is from 2020 not a recent one. In October 2020, a group of men taking out bike rally brandishing swords in Tinsukia, Assam, were intercepted by a police vehicle. A person nabbed in the incident said that he was from Bajrang Dal and that he was part of the procession taken out on ‘Ashtra Poojan’. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

There is a logo of EastMojo on the top-right corner of the video. When reverse image search is done on the video with relevant keywords, a video is similar visuals was found on the official YouTube channel of EastMojo uploaded on 27 October 2020. Hence, the video is not a recent one. According to the YouTube video, some youths were brandishing swords during a bike rally in Assam; one person who was nabbed admitted that he was a Bajrang Dal member.

When searched on Google, articles were found about the same incident. Tinsukia (town in Assam) police intercepted a group of men brandishing swords during a bike rally. Police detained four of them and seized three motorcycles. According to police officials, permission was not taken for the rally that was being taken from Thana Chariali towards Hijugoori; and one of the persons nabbed admitted to being a member of Bajrang Dal. According to reports, the rally was taken out by members of the Bajrang Dal on ‘Ashtra Poojan’.
