The month of Sawan began with the Kanwar Yatra on 11 July 2025. In this context, a video (here, here and here) went viral on social media showing a man named Wahid jumping under a moving Kanwariyas’ vehicle, allegedly committing suicide. It is being claimed that the incident occurred during the 2025 Kanwar Yatra. Let’s find out the truth behind this video.

Claim: The viral video shows a Muslim youth named Wahid committing suicide during the 2025 Kanwar Yatra by jumping under a Kanwariyas’ truck.
Fact: The video is from 2017, not 2025. It shows an incident in Saharanpur’s Lahaswara where a man named Wahid jumped under a truck during the Kanwar Yatra. The video resurfaced in 2022 and was clarified as old by both Saharanpur and Uttar Pradesh Police. Hence the claim is MISLEADING.
To verify the claim, we performed a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the same video uploaded on an X handle on 18 July 2017. The caption read, “Attempt to disrupt the atmosphere, Muslim youth jumped in front of Kanwariyas’ vehicle, crushed to death.” This confirms that the video has been available on the internet since 2017 and is not related to any recent incident or the 2025 Kanwar Yatra.
Further research led us to several news reports (here, here and here) confirming that the incident actually took place in July 2017, during the Kanwar Yatra. A man named Wahid died after he jumped under a truck carrying Kanwariyas in the Lahaswara area of Deoband, Saharanpur. The sudden incident caused panic in the area, but the police quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control. A video of the suicide, recorded by a bystander named Alok, later went viral on social media.

Previously, in 2022, the same video had gone viral on social media. At that time, the Saharanpur Police tweeted a clarification stating that the incident occurred in 2017 and had been investigated according to due procedure. They urged people not to share such sensitive content without verifying the facts. The Uttar Pradesh Police also issued a similar clarification through their official Twitter handle, confirming that the video was old and unrelated to any recent events.

To sum up, a 2017 video of a Muslim man committing suicide by jumping under a Kanwariyas’ truck is falsely shared as an incident from the 2025 Kanwar Yatra.
