A video showing several people pushing a train with multiple coaches is being widely shared across social media platforms (here, here, here and here). The claim accompanying the video alleges that passengers pushed the train to start and made it run on the tracks at Kiul Junction in Bihar. Through this article, let’s fact-check this claim.

Claim: Passengers pushed a train to start it and got it running on the tracks at Kiul Junction in Bihar.

Fact: This viral video shows passengers pushing the train to separate the coaches from the burning ones during a fire accident at Kiul Junction in Bihar. A fire broke out in the Patna-Jasidih MEMU train at Kiul railway station on 06 June 2024. At least three coaches of the train caught fire. The other coaches were separated from the burning ones and pushed to safety by passengers, railway officials, and locals. According to railway officials, no injuries have been reported in this incident, and a probe has been launched to ascertain the reason behind the fire. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

To verify the viral claim and gather more details about the video, we conducted a Google reverse image search using keyframes from the viral video. This search led us to a news report published by ‘Live Hindustan’ on 08 June 2024, featuring similar visuals as those in the viral video. According to this report, a fire broke out in the Patna-Jharkhand Passenger train at Kiul Junction in Bihar, on 06 June 2024, and passengers were seen pushing the train to save the other coaches from burning.

According to these reports, a fire broke out in the Patna-Jasidih MEMU train at Kiul railway station on 06 June 2024. At least three coaches on the train caught fire. The other coaches were separated from the burning ones and pushed to safety by passengers, railway officials, and locals. East Central Railway (ECR) Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra stated, “When the train coming from Patna reached Kiul, some passengers noticed smoke billowing from a coach around 5:24 pm. Fire tenders doused the blaze, and onward movement of the train, as well as other trains, resumed at 7:45 pm.” Railway officials launched a probe to ascertain the reason behind the fire and have confirmed that no injuries have been reported in this incident.
