Congress leader Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers from Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on 3 May 2024. In this context, a video of the crowd raising pro-Modi slogans as Rahul Gandhi arrived at a public place is being shared on social media (here, here, and here) claiming that “Following the filing of his candidature from Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi visits Ayodhya, where he is greeted by the crowd by chanting pro-Modi slogans.” Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

The Archived post can be seen here.

Claim: Following the filing of his candidature from Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi visited Ayodhya, where he was greeted by the crowd with Pro-Modi slogans.

Fact: Modi-Modi slogans were chanted in front of Rahul Gandhi at Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar in Jharkhand, during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in February 2024. This video is not related to the filing of his nomination papers from Rae Bareli. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

We conducted a reverse image search on the video’s keyframes, which directed us to an Instagram reel posted by BJP Gujarat’s official account on 3 February 2024. The reel mentioned that “Modi-Modi slogans were chanted in front of Rahul Gandhi at Sanatan’s Dham Deoghar, Baba Vaidyanath Dham.”

Further, a relevant keyword search yielded several news articles (here, here, and here)  from February 2024 reporting on Gandhi’s visit to Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar, Jharkhand, during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

The Times of India report featuring the same video on 3 February 2024, states that “Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra reached Jharkhand on February 02. Dressed in a Pink Dhoti and Sandalwood powdered forehead, Rahul Gandhi offered prayers at Baba Baidyanath Dham on 3 Feb 2024. As soon as Rahul Gandhi entered the famous jyotirlinga in Jharkhand’s Deoghar, loud sloganeering began. Public in large numbers raised ‘Rahul Gandhi Zindabad’ slogans, but suddenly it turned into ‘Modi-Modi’ chants”. This confirms that the viral video is not from Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Ayodhya after filing his nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections in Rae Bareli.

Media reported Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers from Rae Bareli accompanied by the Party members and INDIA bloc partners on 3 May 2024 (here, here, and here).

To sum up, an old video depicting the crowd raising pro-Modi slogans upon Rahul Gandhi’s appearance in Jharkhand is being circulated as recent.
