Harjinder Singh, a 28-year-old Indian-origin truck driver from Punjab, was arrested in Florida for allegedly making an illegal U-turn that killed three Americans and was denied bail, facing up to 50 years in prison. The US government responded by freezing foreign truck drivers’ work visas, impacting thousands of Punjabi drivers and sparking protests from politicians and community groups. The case has triggered global petitions both supporting Singh and demanding strict punishment, making it a highly polarising issue (here, here and here). Amid this, a viral video (here, here and here) shows Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad hugging an elderly woman, with claims that she is Harjinder Singh’s mother — let’s verify the truth behind this claim.

Claim: The video shows Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad meeting the mother of truck driver Harjinder Singh, accused in the Florida road accident.
Fact: The woman in the video is not Harjinder Singh’s mother but the mother of Kamal Kumar Barara, Haryana state president of “Bhim Army Bharat Ekta Mission.” Barara had uploaded the video in early May 2025, months before the accident on 12 August 2025. He confirmed that the woman is his mother, and no credible reports suggest that Chandrashekhar Azad visited Harjinder Singh’s family. Hence, the viral claim is FALSE.
To verify the truth, we conducted a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the same video uploaded on the account kamal_kumar_barara on 2 May 2025. The video was captioned “Beautiful meeting of Nagina MP and my mother” and clearly predates the truck accident that occurred on 12 August 2025.

Kamal Kumar, while speaking to Aaj Tak, confirmed that the woman seen in the video is his mother. He also stated that he is the Haryana state president of the “Bhim Army Bharat Ekta Mission.” He explained that during a visit, Chandrashekhar Azad had come to his house and met his mother along with other family members. On his account, we also found other videos of the same incident uploaded in the first week of May (here and here), which further confirms that Chandrashekhar Azad met Kamal Kumar’s mother, not Harjinder Singh’s.
Additionally, a keyword search about Chandrashekhar Azad visiting Harjinder Singh’s family yielded no results, further confirming that Azad never visited his home and that the viral video has no connection with Harjinder Singh.
To sum up, a video of Chandrashekhar Azad visiting a party leader’s home is being falsely shared as him meeting the family of the truck driver accused in the Florida accident.
