Bangladesh has witnessed a fresh spell of unrest following the announcement of parliamentary elections and the killing of student movement leader Sharif Osman Hadi. At the same time, reports of attacks on minorities have surfaced. The lynching of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das over alleged blasphemy further escalated tensions and triggered protests in several parts of India (here, here and here). Amid this backdrop, multiple videos claiming to show Bangladeshis being assaulted in India have gone viral on social media. One such video (here, here, here and here), showing a group of young people being beaten in public in the presence of police, is being shared with the claim that Bangladeshis are being attacked in Assam. Let’s find the truth behind this video.

Claim: The viral video shows Bangladeshis being beaten by police in Assam.

Fact: The video is from Gujarat and shows police action during a crime scene reconstruction in the Bharat Ganesh Chaudhary murder case in Palanpur. It has no connection to Bangladesh or Assam. Hence the claim is FALSE.

To verify the claim, we closely examined the viral video and noticed a text overlay reading “Palanpur Media” in Gujarati. We then conducted a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the same video uploaded by a Gujarati digital news outlet named Palanpur Media on its Facebook and Instagram handles (here and here). The original Gujarati text in the video clearly states that the incident took place in Palanpur town, Banaskantha district, Gujarat. The Hindi text in the viral video referring to Bangladeshis was added later and does not appear in the original upload. According to the caption, the video is related to a murder case in Palanpur and shows police bringing the accused to the crime scene to recreate the incident.

Further checks led us to a report by News18 India on YouTube, which also featured the same video. The report stated that the visuals show six accused involved in the murder of Bharat Chaudhary on the Palanpur–Ahmedabad Highway on 20 December 2025.

Further research led us to several news reports about the incident and the viral video (here, here and here). According to media accounts, on 20 December 2025, Bharat Ganesh Chaudhary was murdered on the Palanpur–Ahmedabad Highway in Banaskantha district, Gujarat. Police arrested six accused and later recreated the crime scene at Aroma Circle in Palanpur, bringing the accused, tied with ropes, to the spot; videos show police beating them during the reconstruction. The arrested individuals are Bhargav alias Lalo Nimesh Mandora (prime accused), Ricky Loyal, Bharatji Bhuraji Rajput (Tharad), Bhikikumar Jagdishbhai Parmar (Vadgam), Ganpatbhai Senjibhai Chauhan (Palanpur) and Anil Shankarbhai Bawari (Palanpur). The murder is linked to a financial dispute, and an FIR was registered at Palanpur Pashchim (Palanpur West) Police Station. The viral video originates from this police reconstruction in Gujarat and has no connection to Bangladesh or Assam.

To sum up, this video from Gujarat showing police beating the accused during a crime reconstruction is falsely shared as showing Bangladeshis being assaulted in Assam.
