A video (here and here) is going viral on social media, claiming to show a train collapsing into the raging waters of the Ganga in Patna, while people and media are seen looking at the accident. Let’s uncover the truth behind this claim.

Claim: The viral video shows a train collapsing into the Ganga in Patna.
Fact: The video is not real. Visual analysis shows multiple inconsistencies, and Google’s SynthID tool confirmed it was created using Artificial Intelligence. Moreover, no such train accident has been reported from Patna. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
To verify the claim, we first conducted a keyword search to check if any train accident involving a train in the Ganga had occurred in Patna. However, no such reports were found.
On closely examining the video, we found several inconsistencies and unnatural elements. For instance, despite the heavy flow of water, people and media personnel standing near the scene remain unaffected. The language written on the train and on the media microphones is unrecognisable, and the train bogies do not resemble those of Indian Railways. At one point, a person standing at the train door even appears to become invisible. Such inconsistencies are typical of AI-generated videos, indicating that the viral clip is one of them.

To verify whether the video was AI-generated, we ran it through Google’s SynthID tool, which confirmed that it was indeed created using Artificial Intelligence. Although we could not independently trace the source of the clip, the available evidence strongly indicates that the viral video is AI-generated.

Additionally, PIB clarified on their X handle on 26 August 2025 that the viral video is AI-generated and does not depict any real incident. They advised people to refrain from sharing such content, as it may cause unnecessary fear and confusion.
To sum up, the viral video showing a train collapsing and submerging in the Ganga River near Patna is AI-generated and not real.
