Claim: Prime Minister Modi’s letter to citizens, appealing to them to buy only Made-in-India products during Diwali 2025.

Fact: On 28 September 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, appealed to people to use swadeshi (Made-in-India) products during the forthcoming festive season of 2025, which includes Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali, Chhath, and other celebrations. However, the viral letter attributed to him is fake. The same letter has been circulating on the internet at least since 2016. Back in 2016, the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) clarified that a few unauthentic documents bearing the Prime Minister’s signature were being shared on social media. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

It should be noted that the same letter has been circulating on the internet at least since 2016. When it went viral ahead of Diwali in 2021, Factly published a fact-check article. Back in August 2016, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), through a post on X (formerly Twitter), alerted the public that a few unauthentic documents bearing PM Modi’s signature, similar to the one in circulation, were being shared on social media. Although the text in the letter featured in the PMO’s X post was blurred, the text in the viral letter matches its pattern. For instance, the first line of both the blurred letter in the PMO tweet and the viral letter contains four words, while the fifth line of both has eight words. Additionally, the formatting of “Vande Mataram” and Narendra Modi’s signature is identical. From this, it is clear that the viral letter is fake.

However, on 28 September 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, appealed to people to use swadeshi (Made-in-India) products during the forthcoming festive season of 2025, which includes Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali, Chhath, and other celebrations (here, here, & here). PM Modi has been consistently urging citizens to use Made-in-India products (here, here, here, here, & here).

To sum it up, Prime Minister Narendra Modi did appeal to Indians to use swadeshi products during the Dussehra–Diwali festive season of 2025; however, this viral letter attributed to him is fake.
