Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Manipur on 13 September 2025, his first visit to the state since the 2023 violence. A day after his visit, a mob in Churachandrapur clashed with security forces over the arrest of two people who allegedly vandalised banners and cutouts of the PM.
In the context of his visit, a video (here, here, here, here, and here) is being shared on social media, featuring a large crowd walking under a foot-over bridge with slogans of ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi chod.’ This is being shared with the claim that the video shows people of Manipur protesting against PM Modi for ‘Vote Chori’. We fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: This video shows a ‘Vote Chori’ protest held in Manipur in September 2025.
Fact: This video is from an Anti-Waqf Amendment Act protest held in Kolkata in April 2025, not a video from Manipur. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of this claim, we performed a reverse image search using a few key frames from the viral video. This search led us to an Instagram post (archived link) containing visuals that match the viral video. This was uploaded by a Digital creator named Trisha Roy on 14 April 2025, stating it is from NRS Hospital, Kolkata, and shows ‘Kolkata Waqf Bill Protests.’ This video did not contain the ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi chod’ slogans heard in the viral video.

She also uploaded another video on 14 April 2025 containing similar visuals. Taking this as a hint, we performed a keyword search on the internet and found a news report published by the Times of India that contained visuals similar to the viral video.
The Times of India described the visuals as showing the Anti-Waqf (Amendment) Act protest held in Kolkata on 14 April 2025, which started from Sealdah Station area to Ramlila Maidan. This was organised by the Indian Secular Front (ISF) against the Waqf Amendment Act.

Further, we located the place where the viral video was shot using Google Street View. This confirmed that the key landmarks seen in the video correspond to Sealdah surroundings, Kolkata, not Manipur.

No credible media source or official report indicates that any protest with the alleged slogans took place during PM Modi’s September 2025 Manipur tour. The audio in the viral video seems to be overlaid or edited to make it sound like a vote chori protest.
To sum up, the video being shared with the claim that it shows a protest against PM Modi in Manipur during his 13 September 2025 visit is actually from Kolkata.
