A post is being widely shared on social media claiming that Mughal emperor Aurangzeb fought the Chinese and took control of Kailash Manasarovar. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Mughal emperor Aurangzeb fought the Chinese and took control of Kailash Manasarovar.
Fact: There is no evidence to show that Mughal emperor Aurangzeb fought the Chinese and took control of Kailash Manasarovar. Aurangzeb, since he came to power in 1658, had military campaigns against Ahoms in the north-east, Yusufzai and Sikhs in the north-west. He annexed Bijapur in 1685 and Golconda in 1687. Aurangzeb faced fierce rebellion of the Marathas in the Deccan. But he never had a military campaign against the Chinese. Historically and otherwise, Kailash Manasarovar comes under Tibet, not China. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
According to NCERT, in the list of Military campaigns by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, there was no mention of China.
When a similar claim went viral on social media, Times of India had written a fact-check article and confirmed it as fake. They reached out to renowned historians about Aurangzeb’s campaign against the Chinese for Kailash Manasarovar, who said, “Aurangzeb never mounted any military campaign against China or Tibet.” However, Kailash Manasarovar comes under Tibet, and not China.
To sum it up, Mughal emperor Aurangzeb never fought the Chinese for control of Kailash Manasarovar.
